I have a Brown Ale in primary right now with Wyeast 1084 (Irish Ale); SG 1.055. I took a hydrometer reading less than 48 hours after pitching the yeast, and got 1.012. Does this seem low?

Is the 1.055 gravity what you read with your hydrom. before pitching? Or is that just the intended SG based off the recipe?

1.055 is what i measured before pitching; beersmith predicted 1.054.

At 70-75*, I would say that the yeast could easily get a 1.055 down to 1.012 in less than 48 hours.

Sometimes it takes two days, sometimes it takes two weeks...you just never know with yeast.

+1...

It can get that low with a fermentable wort and that high of a temp.
