hey i been brewing for the past one year doing extract... have done hefeweizen, belgian triple, dry-hopped ipa (twice), hopweizen, and pumpkin ale.

now i am looking for a "house" beer thats light in alcohol but has the hops - aroma and all... i love IPA!!!!!

i was given this recipe... this guy call it grapefruit pale ale. he says its like 3.5 percent alcohol... should make for a great candidate to be a house beer!!! in addition to that i love grapefruit.

10 oz crytstal 10l
4 0z cara-pils

150-160 steep grain 30 minutes

3 lbs pils light
1 lbs amber

1 oz cluster
1 oz fuggles
1 0z goldings, kent

pitch american ale yeast

primary - 1 week
secondary - add 1 oz cluster

what do u think of this? will this work out to the way i want it? as am looking for a "light" dry-hopped IPA!!!! i plan on brewing a batch real soon!

the EKGs and Fuggles are English hops and the cluster is old school english derived hop. If you were going for a west coast style IPA hop character it would use centennial, cascade, simcoe, amarillo or citra. Look at the Centennial blonde ale recipe and you can increase the hops a bit if you want. I have never made it but us is very popular and seems like what you are wanting to make.

What!!! On private property?? Dosent sound right.

Regards to the OP. I would like to see a good recipe too. A session ipa.

Do ipa have to be a little higher abv to balance out the hops?? Don't know I'm new.

I know if you are drinking a beer while mowing with a riding tractor you CAN get a DUI!!!!!

Heard Farley Mowat (Canadian Author, crazy old drunkard by most accounts) say once he ditched his ride one for a push mower because he didn't feel right with the hypocrisy of rideing a lawn mower while drinking, and he didn't want to mow the lawn without drinking either.

panthercity - yes good idea to go with the west coast character as thats more of what i am looking for.

so does everything else in the recipe look ok? 10 ozcrystal 10l, 4 oz cars-pils, 3 lbs pils light and 1 lb amber along with american ale yeast? or should i be changing it up a bit for a west coast ipa character? i plan on dry-hopping it too with pellets.

.

:off: Yes even on private property. If you are over the legal limit, it is illegal to operate anything other then your feet. It doesn't matter if it is a Bicycle, lawn mover, or a car. You are still getting a DUI. Whether or not you are convicted for the DUI on a bike is another question. I had a friend in College who was drunk riding his pink bike (yes it was his pink bike) get a DUI because the cop thought he stole it.
