Hopefully I am posting this in the right place. New here & new to brewing beer. I still have yet to do my first.

My wife really likes ginger beer & really likes the idea of a ginger stout.

I am wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of a good ginger stout recipe.

I don't know how good it is, I just found it on a quick search. It might be worth looking for other beer recipes that use ginger and see how much they use per gallon and incorporate it into a basic recipe for your favorite kind of stout.

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking. At this point I have yet to brew beer at all.

I have a stout recipe that my mentor/good friend has set me up with for my first one.

Right now I guess I am looking for how much ginger per gallon is used on average, like you said.
 
Well you can certainly try to brew a stout like that whenever you'd like, but I would recommend that you try a simpler recipe first. Maybe just a simple dry stout or even a milk stout. Just something to get yourself used to the process.

Big stouts like what I linked to, they can have their issues. Mash tuns can get too full, yeast can be stressed.

As far as how much ginger per gallon, that will really depend on who you ask. Best to find some recipes that use ginger, pay attention to how much gets used and how people go about adding it, and start at the low end of the spectrum and work your way up.

In The Complete Joy of Homebrewing, Charlie P recommends 1oz fresh ginger per 5 gallons, but says he has been successful using as little as 0.5oz and as much as 4oz.
