Just found this forum, and its wealth of info. I grew up in Cali. and been living in Portland for 10 years now. Got into beer and home brewing since I moved here. I've brewed about 8x, doing extract and specialty grain in my kitchen. And one all grain. Oh and 3 batches of Mead that came out killer. I took a break for a couple years but just decided to get back into it. I just brewed 2 batches in the last week. One was an extract/specialty grain clone of Mac and Jacks, and the other was a Red Rye, I got the recipe from this site and tweaked it a bit. It was an all grain recipe, but I did a partial mash, then added 3lbs. of DME, since I did it in my kitchen. Actually just finished it, and pitched the yeast...:ban:

Welcome! Check out this thread Easy Stovetop All-Grain Brewing (with pics) if you want to do all grain, but only have access to a kitchen. About the only extra things you need are a second, bigger pot and a big grain bag. You can even get the pot for cheap here 40 quart aluminum stock pot as long as you don't mind aluminum (and don't let anyone tell you that aluminum is bad, it's just different).

Good luck and happy brewing!

There is a very large brewing community in Portland both on this forum and *gasp* the real world. There is an upcoming brew day in Portland check the groups or in the upcoming events area for more details.

Holy crap, 22 bucks for a 10 gallon pot is dirt cheap... I paid 30 for my 8 gallon pot, and thought I was getting a great deal.

That's what I said. And a 15 gallon is only $8 more. I have no problem spending money on this hobby (Lord knows I've already spent a ton), but if I can get a usable product for cheap and transfer the savings to more supplies then I'm all for it.
