So I was reading about grains and how they become malted and trying to find out what the difference is between Extra Light Pale Malt and Pilsner Malt.

I found somewhere that Pilsner Malt has a 2.5 EBC rating making it the lightest malt on the market. What is the EBC rating of ELPM?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone used Pilsner Malts to brew ales instead of traditional lagers?

If so how were the results? :mug:

As you say, pils malt = 2.5, and I've got some lower colour Maris Otter (aka white east india malt) which weighs in at 3 ebc. I'm not sure if that's the same as ELPM. Pils malt make a nice ale, but there's no point unless you're wanting a really pale ale like a koelsch.

I am making a dubbel so I am close. I was referring to ELPM as an extract as well as the Pilnser (Briess) Malt. I am surprised they have not come out with a clear malt with an ebc of 1.

That would be cool, maybe!
