Question for the really old-school ballers: what do you reckon was the first "instawhale", if such a thing can be identified?

I'm not sure I'm a really old school baller, but I remember other people like me trying to track down Stone VE 02 and it was super hard to find back in early 06. I also recall people really wanting BA Old Salty from Heavyweight.

...I quit FB...

Still have a couple of the CS Batch 1. Drink one every so often and it's still great. Last Petite Sour 750ml I had was Blackberry and opened it 2 years ago. Still pretty tasty but certainly the funk took over (not a bad thing) and lost a lot of the fruit. Last year I did a vertical of the first 4 Persica. The Persica b1 was fantastic. Best of the bunch and still had more fruit then the later batches. It was a blind tasting with 8 people and not one guessed that was b1.
Just dug through some boxes. Still have a Whalzblood. Some Batch 1 and some OG Le Brett. Cannot imagine these are improving so I might give them a whirl this weekend.

Wish I still had my WWB set though.

Batch 1 is still great but has lost a step the last one I had. Had an Oculus a little bit ago and that hasn't lost anything. Still have a couple WWBV. Should open one of those soon

I also fondly recall when people actually gave a **** about Avery sours. Those were the days in the old Avery Alley.

I remember having Odio Equum at Hamilton's in SD back in early 2013 and being super-impressed, at the time it was maybe my favorite AWA I'd ever had. Drank a few bottles over the next year or two and haven't ran into it again since. I'd be really curious how it's aged in that time.

I really appreciate the offer, but (1) I wouldn't let you do it as a GPIUFMB, and (2) there are no beers on the Big Island that you would want me to send you.

Where's INU located? I've been impressed with their "Island Punch" beers and several other things I've tried from them.

They are on Oahu. Hawaii's first "hype brewery". Haven't tried any of their stuff yet, though Oahu has some other good breweries (Lanikai and BeerLab among them).

Hawaii should really be thought of as separate states when looking at beer distribution. Maui gets stuff that Kauai and the Big Island don’t get with their Stone-Maui deal and then Oahu just says “**** you!” with all their breweries and Shelton goodies that never make their way anywhere else.

Send me a message. Think I saw a couple bottles in the Avery stash the other day

King Henry. Before it was released people were already sucking its dick hard. Then came the haters. Then it was released, was amazing and all the haters turned into dick suckers, lol.

While batch 1 Black Tuesday completely changed the game, I remember North Carolina ruining the trade boards with their ******** hype waelz around the same time. Old Rabbit's Foot, BA Sexual Chocolate, B1 Lindley Park, ******* Event Horizon; all seemed to come out in the same 9 months. ISO;FT was full of "FT: ORF" with asinine asks. Then @nickd did his little statistical study that showed NC and Florida were the worst offenders when it came to overrating their home beers when compared to out of market reviews. I was overjoyed when one of them (I forget which one, ORF?) ended up infected.

If only we knew that would become the norm nationwide.

Speaking of instawhales that turned out to be garbage, Let us also take a moment to remember Churchill's Finest Sour.

You mean the "Oh my god the release was awful. It rained for an hour and was 60 degrees!!!!!!!" ?

Previously had the bartender at Churchill's set aside a bottle to share with MarkIntihar and I when we went out there back in 2013. It was exceptional.
