Rare was sitting on the shelf of the ****** Foodtown in my neighborhood for such a long time. At that point in my beer career, I refused to spend that amount of money on a single bottle.

I think Rare was $43 a bottle and Vanilla was $18? Made for some good drinkin'. Also helped that I was living at home so my only living expenses were beer

Chicagoland was, and continues to be, the most rabid market for BCBS, but the big (for the time) price tag for Rare made it juuuuuuuust prohibitive enough for us to buy as many as we were willing to pay for up to around New Year's provided we were willing to cold call liquor stores and canvas suburban Whole Foods'.

Sometimes I catch myself still wondering if there really is Rare sitting on that shelf in Kentucky...

Westview Lake Liquors shipped me as much as I wanted when it first came out.

I showed up at a tasting last month and the group was opening 15-18. No idea what they traded for them, but the bottles were all pretty good. Never ticked the 005 super whale, but the 004 I had in 2014(?) was still fantastic.
Had 005 again about six months ago and it was no where near as good as the first time I had it about 5 years ago. Had lost that bright ruby red color and was much more acidic than years prior. I always enjoyed 006 the most.

You might have stashed it in your porn directory
Haha on my work computer?

That whole snafu is the only reason I got any Rare, posted "ISO: Shelf Rare; FT: CA Shelf Stuff" and the BA thread was predictably amazing, but I ended up with 3 offers, I think mostly $4$ Pliny. Having access to cases of Pliny got me sooooo much good beer.

Probably not whales to anyone but me, but this discussion in conjunction with the Bruery’s 10th anniversary has made up my mind to drink 1 of each of these today/tomorrow.

Just cracked open the red wax brandy and its everything I hoped it would be.

Bruery beetus beers will always be my kryptonite.

Oh hey whats up old money friends!? Classic NateNelson thread. I'll dig up some pics when I get home.

Most contentious whale (only early 2010s Chicago kids will understand)

Just picked up a four pack of Cigar City Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Brown. Let's see if it's as good as that one time from seven years ago. I've since built it up to mythic status in my head. I also blacked out and lost my phone that night. (40 tap Cigar City takeover...yikes). I know it's not a whale just reminiscing about **** I once thought was the greatest stuff ever
