Can anyone point me in the direction of a good legacy hops recipe. Have a pound too use up. Thinking and ipa maybe.

What hops do you have? What year were they harvested and the original AA %? This will help decide on what recipe might be best to brew.

Also, are you looking at doing all grain or extract and do you have any of these ingredients on hand?

This is my house IPA recipe, only I use citra, but legacy and citra are close.

5 Gallon batch:

Grains:
1. 14 Pounds - US 2 Row
2. 1 Pound - Carafoam
3. 1 Pound - Carapils/Dextrine
4. .5 Pound - Crystal 10L

Hops:

1. 1 oz. Simcoe - 60 Mins
2. 1 oz. Legacy - 20 Mins
3. 1. oz. Cascade - 10 Mins.
4. .5 oz. Legacy - Flame out/Whirlpool
5. 1.5 oz. Legacy - Dry Hop 5-7 days

Yeast -

2 Pkgs. Safale - US 05

Other -

Whirlfloc @ 15 mins.

OG: 1.066
FG: 1.014
ABV: 6.78%
IBU: 58-63 depending on Alpha

Put that recipe into beersmith and allow it calculate your mash temps and water volumes.

This is a good IPA recipe. My LHBS owner is a certified beer beer judge and helped me with the grain bill. The carafoam and carapils add great body and head retention. I get a great stable head with this one even with all of the hop additions and oils from that. Crystal 10L is just for a little more color doesn't add much more than that....I only recently added it. My buddies love this IPA and you will too :)

I have legacy Willamette cascade columbis centennial saaz magnum and chinook on hand 2row 6row marris otter crystal 10,40,60,80,120. British crystal 50/60 I think it is. Biscut malt smoked malt chocolate malt. And a few other specialty grains on hand. Us-4, us-05, pacman ,1968, Cooper, and some hefeweizen yeast on hand also

What would be a good replacement for the carafoam and carapils I don't have them on hand and no homebrew shop around me to get them. Planning on brewing tonight

Replace the simcoe with Chinook. Replace the Carafoam and Carapils with extra 10L. So use 2.5 pounds of 10L. The crystal adds head retention and body same as the Carafoam and Carapils, it'll just be a little darker on the SRM scale at 2.5 pounds of it, but should be plenty good. still. Real simple recipe, but should give you a great IPA. If you wanted to get real experimental add in one pound of chocolate malt for a CDA or Black IPA.

I like to brew a single hop APA with simple grain bill when I want to try out a new hop. Mostly base malt with a some Munich and a little Carapils, with 3 or so ounces of hops (in 5 gallons).

That's what I was thinking but reading a few threads led me to believe, while in combination with other hops legacy was very nice it. It was some what a let down as a single hop beer.

I think I will go that route. Think I will go this way.
12lb 2row
1lb crystal 40l

1oz legacy 60min
4oz legacy 5min

Mash at 152
Pacman yeast.

Thanks for the help everyone.
