Im sure this question is answered in other threads but I'm forced to surf the net with my iPhone and it doesn't work with this search engine.

Anyways, no matter what combination of washers, gaskets or lube I can't get my drain valve on my mash run to seal. I just built it and I'm testing it with cold water.

What I'm wondering is...with hot wort seal better? My guess is the hot liquid combined with a more viscous liquid will seal better.

Is this the case?

I'd hate to found out with 15 pounds of grain wasted that it's not the case.

No, if it leaks with cold water it will leak at least as bad with hot. You need to solve the problem before you try to use it.

inspect the face that the gasket sits against. you probably have some kind of abrasion that is getting in the way, and you will have to scrape it down and/or apply some heat to smooth it.

iirc i have a red silicone o-ring against the inside of my cooler, then a stainless washer, then the coupler and nipple.

Also, are you using teflon tape on the threads? Use teflon tape. If you are using the white stuff, try using the yellow (gas line) tape -- it's much thicker.
