I was looking around and happened across the Lavatool Thermowand. I have been looking at the thermopens, just did not want to drop~$90 on that piece of equipment when there are other pieces that I would rather spend that amount on.

I was wondering if anyone has used on, and what were their thoughts? I looked at the technical data and compared the Thermowand and the Thermapen and on paper their specifications are similar.

If you have one or used one let me know about the performance.

That looks pretty good. I have the CDN 450 and it is great. I calibrated it first thing and I use it for spot checking all the time. I like this thermometer. I'd like to see how it calibrates. I didn't see that right away but I didn't look too hard either

The reviews on Amazon look good. If I did not already have a Thermapen, I would give it a try.

I had one of the cheap probe thermometers and it was just way to slow. But this one appears to settle in fast.

Their website states that there is no calibration needed

I may give it a whirl.

I actually have 2 of these, they're excellent, they stabilize quickly and read accurately, plus they have a nice large display which is handy when you brew a lot at night (like I do).

The stem on that thermometer looks short for getting down into mash. I think this option from ThermoWorks is a good choice. It's a top reading thermometer like the CDN and only cost $20.

I bought the thermowand a couple weeks ago. Haven't had a chance to brew with it yet but it feels very well made. It is smaller than I thought it would be but hopefully it'll work well for brewing. I like that it uses a common easily replaceable battery.

I actually just purchased the Lavatools Thermowire. I like the probe size and the added features via your phone. It was $35.00 free shipping on their website.
