My lager yeast starter wont stop fermenting, it is still cloudy and is bubbling out of the tupperware container. How do you guys get it to stop? The wife was not happy with the spillage in the fridge ;-). Thanks for any help!

It stops when all available sugars have been consumed to the limit of the yeast's attenuation ability. Artifically stopping it before that by dropping to near freezing temperatures would almost defeat the purpose of making a starter. Not sure why you'd want to do that.

The fermentation does not have to stop when making a starter. The yeast will propagate then "eat" all the rest of the sugar. Once they have built to the proper cell count in 12-18 hours, with a stirplate, longer with intermittent shaking. Then you can pitch.

Thanks guys. I was trying to save time on brew night by having starter ready to pitch. Just wanted to make sure everything was still kosher.
