Well the garage is currently 11 - 13 deg C. (52-55ish F).

I'd like to make a lager. I expect the temp in the garage will drop to as low as 4c (39F) during the winter. Is this too cold? Are there any lager strains that can handle this temp range? Lowest Wyeast (2042 Danish Lager) rates 8c on their website.

I'd be leaving this in the secondary to lager till spring.

8C is about as low as you're going to find. The fermentation phase will only take a week or two and should be done at around 10C if you can manage it. After that the lagering phase should be done at 0C and can last as long as you want.

Ok. Good. If I can find some lager yeast in time I'll brew it now while the temp is still in range then leave it in the garage through the winter.
