This is a SMaSH German Pilsner lager, Danstar Diamond yeast, 1.048 OG. I had a watery mash (BIAB) and during the preboil gravity reading, I thought the color was too light, maybe 1 SRM. After the boil it darkened to about 3 SRM. You can see in the first pic, before the fermentation took really took off that it looked pretty dark in the carboy. The second picture is from today - very cloudy and much lighter. In the thief it is the same color. I think it's too light for the style. I'm sitting at 1.016 or so today. What happened? Is it just yeast in suspension? I have never had a beer do this, but then again this is the lightest brew I have done, and my first lager. It has been fermenting at a steady ambient 45F. I dropped it from 50F when the fermentation picked up.

It’s just suspended yeast. Once the yeast flocks out you’re going to see a similar color. And beer always looks darker in a carboy than the glass. I’ve got a 12 SRM Flanders red that looks positively black in the carboy right now.
