I went to my LHBS to buy ingrediants for a 2.5 gallon batch of a caramel cream ale today but they did not have lactose. The recipe calls for 2 oz of lactose in primary (probably just add it at flameout for sanitation purposes) and then another 2 oz at bottling time. I've tried searching, but can't find much help, but is there a place like wholefoods, fresh market, etc. that might sell this stuff? I'd like to brew tomorrow and I just don't want to order from a website and pay shipping for just one item and then have to wait for it. Is there an acceptable and available substance I could substitute? Thanks for the help.
