Ha, I'm sitting at the bar in this pic... Creepy...

Guilty. I'm the guy in the blue shirt
I'm one of the other guys in a blue shirt. No sunglasses though.

May be a simple dish of Tomato salad, but that was some really tasty AF tomatoes.

Also, Brown Bag night coming soon in DTLA location later this month for those interested
What is that?
Accurate photo is accurate.
Wouldn't be surprised if this was a photo from Woodshop.
Man, has it been so long since we've had one that folks have forgotten?

Blind beer tasting. We pick a theme, bring a beer or two that falls under loose interpretation of said theme. We pour it blindly, shoot the **** about it and then are surprised by the end of the night when label perception doesn't always match actual enjoyment.

Save the date for the 25th of July in downtown L.A. location.
What happened to the Hermosillo?
I would assume it isn't worth the hassle to them.
Are you running it or is Chris? Need to tick that lavender ice cream
Chris brought it up to my attention if I was up for another go at it and set up an amazing location So it's Chris setting it up and me sounding the horn of gondor.

Considering the amount of nectarines that were thrown at me the other day, expect there to be a lot of masumoto in the house.

As for the Herm, nah, nothing happened. They were way more welcoming of us even after it was clear that they didn't need us taking up bar counter space, but Q had a lot on his plate as it was and like Woodshop, some time between events helps make it feel a little more special when it happens.

July 25th.
Theme: Best of the year thus far
I'd be down for this.

Sup fellas.

Here's the lowdown, snagged from a post I just made on BA (which seems a little more conducive to this kind of thing having its own thread):

Arts District Brown Bag Night - "Best of 2017 (So Far)"

Come one, come all...!

On Tuesday, July 25th, "The Study" at Arts District Brewing Co. is hosting a loosely structured double-blind tasting of beers within a set theme-- this time, "Best of 2017 (So Far)". The idea behind this concept is that it is an open-invitation bottle-share where all of the beers are covered in a brown bag and served in a random order, so that none of the participants have any knowledge of the beers we are drinking. It’s a fun, unpretentious way to circumvent any preconceptions you may have, and to challenge and educate your palate about the flavors and aromas you experience.

Starting at 6PM, we will do the "Brown Bag" tasting of various beers in small pours, and you can evaluate, rate, savor, and compare the beers to one another as part of the tasting. Price of admission? Any beer of your choice, as long as it is something that you personally consider worthy of the conversation among the Best Beers you have had in 2017. Just what that means is up to you-- pick up a growler of something outstanding at your local brewpub, or swing by a bottle shop and try to find a beer that recently blew your mind, or pull a legendary favorite from your personal stash. This opens up a huge array of styles, where literally any kind of beer is fair game-- as long as it’s good. If you’re bringing a 22 oz. or 750 mL bottle, one should be enough. If it’s a 12-ounce bottle or can, please bring two (if possible-- if you only have one, just bring the one).

These events are open to any and all interested participants-- if you know about it, you're invited. So if you've ever been curious or interested to attend a blind tasting, or you just want to drink great beer and hang out with great people... Now is your chance! Bring a friend or make new friends!

This event will be held in "The Study" at Arts District Brewing, which is the recently-opened "Speakeasy" space at the back end of the front patio. There is a private bar inside with tables and seating, as well as its own draft system with available beers. Taster glassware will be provided.

Hope to see some of y'all there. Please let me know if you have any questions.

As far as "what happened to Hermosillo?" FBIinformant had it right-- Nothing. I love The Hermosillo, love Ross and Bob and I still call it my "local" (even though I live like 30 minutes away). I am very grateful for their generosity in hosting many of these adventures, and Ross has told me they would welcome future events.

So we stopped doing these as a monthly routine at the end of 2015 because I just had too much on my plate. Then we did two of them last year, both at The Hermosillo, because it's always fun to do these things once in awhile and share some awesome beers with great people. Now we are doing a "mid-year" one and simply mixing it up with a new venue as a change of pace, to keep things fresh and keep people on their toes, and so as not to overstay our welcome. I like shaking things up with Woodshops at new venues, and I think it's cool to do the same with these smaller events too. The Arts District guys approached me about organizing a bottle-share, and I jumped on it. It's an awesome venue and should be a great time. Hope to see many familiar faces and meet some new ones. Probably will have some Hermosillo-esque connective tissue in the form of beers, floats, infusions, and/or some other fun stuff.

Dear Chris,

San Diego misses you. Please send us more awesome beer events. Your pal, some rando Asian guy on the Internet.

DTJB's closed, not a ton of good places to hold the event.
NPBC or Rip Current might be cool places. Or ****, even one of the Carnitas Snack Shacks.

Neither of those places are even remotely big enough. Well, NPBC might work, but we'd have to have the entire place to ourselves.

Headed to LA in mid-August with fam to visit in-laws, and thus will need much beer. Want to solicit advice for good bottle shops...and area breweries too (have been a few times, but it's been four years, so landscape has probably changed).

We miiight get a day trip or two sans kiddos, but mostly looking for suggestions very near (or places on the way in between) these locations: Anaheim (Disney for two days), Oceanside (four days) and than Fallbrook (three days, with some plans for Temecula wineries).

If this might be better posted in another thread, please lmk. TIA

I'll stick with brewery-only suggestions ...

Anaheim (there might be some "debate", but in general, the below are the "best of class" in the immediate Anaheim area)
Noble Ale Works
Bottle Logic (you might get luck as I heard Fundamental Observation will be pouring throughout Aug)
Bruery (for bottle shop, go to Mr. K's Liquor ... right next to Bruery ... AWESOME SHOP!)
Green Cheek Beer Company (about a month old ... opened by former head brewer at Noble ... this place is LEGIT!)

Oceanside
Bagby Brewing (best in the area, IMO)
Stone Company Store (it's a "satellite" location ... cool space ... might as well hit it since you are near)
Burgeon Beer Company (new, heard fairly good things about it)

~~ if you can get to the Vista/San Marcos are (about 15 min inland), tons more options = Lost Abbey, Stone Headquarters, Toolbox, etc. ~~ if you can get to Carlsbad (about 5/10 min south), Pizza Port is a great family friendly option ~~

Fallbrook - nothing much in Fallbrook "proper", you'll need to hit Temecula
Don't really frequent Temecula much, but my two faves are Refuge Brewing and Ironfire Brewing

FYI ... pretty much all places in SoCal are family friendly, so bring the kids :)

Thanks--for both beer and food suggestions. Wish we were leaving tomorrow.
