Hi,

I'm making my first batch of kombucha, it's been 4 days so far, the mother scoby and just stayed at the bottom but I can slowly see what I think is a new scoby forming on top. But when my kombucha is ready what should I do? As I don't think the new scoby will be strong enough to empty and start the next batch. But also as the mother Scoby which I bought has stayed at the bottom of the jar, is that okay? And can I use it in the next batch?

Thank you

It doesn't matter if it is at the bottom of the jar the entire time, the scoby on top is a sign of health. Keep both scoby's for the next batch -- this is perfectly normal, sooner or later the skinnier one will pad out :)

Ah okay that's brilliant thank you! I thought that the scoby needed air so it being at the bottom for days now would have killed it or something! Thanks for the help!

I have two that seem to like the bottom....3rd batch and still hugging the bottom. Looks like I will be later than sooner to pad out with these little guys!

In the, the kombucha stills taste great!
