Bought a freezer at a flea market for $5 got it home and did not cool. Bought a piercing valve to add more refidgerant and that seal leaked. My question is I removed the piercing valve and tried to used JB Weld for metal on the pin hole instead of just soldering it. Has any one else tried this and did it seal your leak don't want to go out and waste another 15 dollars on refridgerant if the J B doesn't work.....Thanks

Not sure what you are using for a "piercing valve", but I thought that you used to leave them place, after using the "valve" feature for recharging..........

Agreed, I think they're supposed to be closed tight when charging is complete and left in place.

I think using any kind of squish-on sealant is going to be iffy at best, as the pressure behind the patch is going to be working hard to make it fail...

Cheers!

Since you have an empty system at this point then I would solder in a real valve at this point. Once you put that on then you have to get a vacuum pump and get all the air and any moisture out. Fill it with the recommended charge and go from there.
