So I'm about to turn a Keg into a brew kettle, and I have a couple of questions about the plumbing and trub in the type of vessel.

Does the bowl shape bottom help reduce the amount of trub going into the fermentor?
Is a dip tube necessary in kettle?
If it is should it be in the center of off to the side?

I was thinking if the bowled bottom didnt reduce the trub out, then I would just make slightly larger batches and pull from a valve placed higher on the keg.

Thoughts?

I use a dip tube and a false bottom in mine. Works great with whole hops. I have a ball valve on the outside.

Note, that is 14 oz of whole hops... mmmm...

I've also had good results with a false bottom / center pick-up tube combo. If I used pellet hops, I always included some whole leaf hops to help make a better filter bed.

Built in wort chiller with ports on outside? Nice. Are you using compression fittings to take it out for cleaning?
