Whenever I pull the gas off my keg, I notice that if I put some soapy water on the gas in, I can see some bubble coming from the popet. If I press it with my fingernail, it seems to reset itself and all is good.

My fear is if this happen when I've kegged and have the gas on. That would mean the gas is escaping correct?

Anyone else have this happen, and how can I make sure it's not leaking once hooked up?

Thanks!

If it's connected to the gas line it shouldn't leak but your beer could lose its carbonation if left disconnected. Replace the poppet. They're cheap.

I've had that happen before. Usually a bit of keg lube on the poppet will help ensure it seats properly. If that doesn't work, I'd go with what govner1 said and replace the poppet.

ugggh....beer is already in keg conditioning. can I still get some keg lube on at this point?

Just leave it on the gas and fix the leg when it's kicked.

If you must take it off gas there are two options. (1) release the pressure and fix the post or (2) jumper the beer to another keg

+1, if you can keep it on gas I wouldn't worry about it until you're ready for the next batch.

You also want to make sure your posts are matched to your kegs and you're using the correct poppets. I once bought Cornelius kegs with Firestone posts on them and couldn't find a poppet that would seal consistently. Ended up having to buy the correct Cornelius posts.

Not on gas yet. Just conditioning in keg with corn sugar.

Well, then that limits the options.

If you think it is leaking it has to be fixed or it will not carbonate (or worse get oxidized).

But if you try to fix it at this point you will lose the pressure and have to start over with the carbonation... but it's hard to determine how much CO2 is in solution now. So, repriming with corn sugar would not be recommended as it will likely wind up over carbonated when it finally goes on tap.
