Have a keg I'm either going to turn into a mash tun or a boil kettle...just wondering which would be the better investment or if
It even matters. I would like to start making 10 gallon batches and already have a mash tun I made out of a cooler which is big enough for 10 gallon batches...maybe I just answered my own question

Your very efficient, you answered your own question. The boil kettle would be cheaper to build anyway.

The boil kettle would be the less costly investment to me but if you spend a little bit more and do some proper planning you can have both in one kettle.

Never thought about it like that...would be kind of a pain to collect wort in another kettle, the clean out the mash tun to use for boil

So if I converted to a mash tun, would the screen and everything be rated for the heat when I boil?

If you stick to copper / stainless parts in your mash tun, then yes. Some people use cpvc and vinyl tubing in mash tuns that can handle mash temps but would not survive the heat of a burner under them.
