I'm sure there's been one thousand of posts about this in the past, so here's post 1,001. What's the best way to go about getting a used keg? I've checked out the Sabco site, and the prices for kegs are a little discouraging to me. I see they sell refurbished kegs, but I couldn't find a price on them. Has anyone ordered a refurbished keg from them? If so, how much did it cost you?
I know some people just rent a half barrel of BFW and have a big party, then just keep the keg. That seems a little less than ethical to me (buying BFW, not keeping the keg
) I've been trying to get in touch with someone at a local liquor store to see if I could pay him the deposit rate (and a little more, if that's what it took) if I could have one of his empties, although I'm kind of guessing that's not 100% legal, so we'll see how that goes. I also asked the owner of a bar that I visit occasionally to ask her distributor about dinged kegs that would otherwise be disposed of. Maybe I can get one with a dent, but in otherwise good condition...
Basically, I just want to see if there's any avenues that I'm missing. I finally have my MLT built, I just ordered a 210,000 BTU Bayou Classic Banjo Burner today, and now I'm itching to get my keggle setup. So, if anyone here has any creative means of getting kegs that they want to share, I'd be forever grateful!
