Keezer: Outer collar vs no outer collar

Which did you choose and why?

My keezer is staying in my garage, not to be a feature of my home, i'm considering either 2x4 or 2x6 collar, and no outer collar at all.

Curious why so many outer collars?

No outer for me.
Mine is also in the garage. I wasn't looking to spend too much time on the build, I would rather brew. It's now maxed out with 3 faucets. 2 on the floor, 1 on the hump. I used 2x10's for the collar to make sure it was tall enough. It's a 5cu ft freezer.

I did the 2x6 collar. Room for keg on the hump and a place to put my four taps. I was going to risk drilling through the chest and running a tower would not work given where my keezer is at in the garage when I open the lid to replace the kegs.

I think the only reason for outer collar is appearance?

Some may say extra insulation, but the R value of wood is crap, so it's certainly not worth the price, other than for decorative purposes.

figured, no outer required then! I have room for the amount of kegs i want without a collar (2.5 gallon keg on the hump), any reason to go 2x6 over 2x4 then?

No collar at all for me, my pinlocks fit just fine without. Just picnic taps, so no shanks and faucets to buy either. Works well since it is just me and in my garage.

Some do outer collar as it is inherently stable without adhesive (collar can't "slide" off,, and hides unsightly gaps of warped wood or poor carpentry as some collars don't lie flat on the freezer. I just did mine with composite decking scraps yesterday , and didn't do outside collar. It turned out nice, but I took a lot of care to make it so.

I just bought 2x4 cedar for my inner collar, the wood looks great and it is cut and measured perfectly, I will have no need for an outer collar
