I am going to do my first all grain soon and the set up I bought has a converted pony keg for the mash/lauder tun. I have seen a lot of youtube vids that use a cooler for the mash tun. With the cooler they put blankets over it to keep the heat in. Can I use the same method for the pony keg? If not, what is the best way to do this.

Thank you for any help.

Wrap the keg in reflectix (aluminum bubble wrap). You can find it at a big box store in the insulation section. Don't forget about the bottom either. Cut a circle the size of the outside of the keg and then tuck it inside the rim.

I've used packing tape to hold the wrap in a tube but I saw somebody use Velcro to make it removable. Next time I think I may give that a try.

Unless you plan on heating the MT / pony keg, you will need to inuslate it well, or you could keep a bit of boiling water around to add small amounts during the mash to keep the heat up. Or both?
