Brewing great beer isn't that hard. Doing it while doing the dishes, sanitizing and assembling new dispensing lines, cooking the 2 yr old TWO dinners, keeping her from electricuting/burning/giving herself a tattoo with a marker (she only got the celtic knot design up 1 1/2 of her legs before I caught her), tripping over the dogs ten times, all on two hours sleep IS HARD. It's weekends only for me from now on!

I know your pain.
I have 4 kids; one being a mere 3 weeks old.

Tomorrow all but the wee one will be gone.
I shall brew!!!

Just think how great that beer will taste though.

I hear ya. My last brew day, I invited people to help while I was brewing. Sort of went with the potential interruptions, including them in the process and asking people to help out (mom, watch for boil-overs, dad keep stirring, neighbor, help with the sparge please). This way, the interruptions became part of the solution and not the problem. I have no answer for small children, however!!

I can't wait till I have kids. Brewslaves, they'll be. And screw baths...using what I've learned from brewing, I'll just soak them in oxyclean for a few minutes, then it's 30 seconds in the star-san, and voila. :D

My wife usually takes the kidling (2 1/2) out to a friend's house, or to the park, or otherwise keeps her occupied while I'm brewing. Part of the whole compromise deal we've got going, that's Daddy's time. I'll also take her along with me whenever I go to the HBS (usually a full afternoon trip) to give the wifey a bit of a break, as well.

It also helps that I boil outdoors, and I try and start as early as possible in the morning.

I definitely sympathize. Taking 2 kids to the brew shop is impossible. Right now my wife is pregnant (again) and not too sympathetic to my need to brew. I have had to be creative!

I can't figure out how to balance 10:00 PM mash-ins with 5:00 AM wake-up calls...

Long as I don't partake of TOO much product while brewing, I can do the 2-3 hours of sleep once in awhile. Sometimes I'll hold off on the boil until the next day.

Amen to that - I caught my 2 year old just before he was about to apply a medium-grind to his fingers.

LOL - Genius!! :D

I'm with ya on the bath's, my 2 1/2 yr old only wants to stay in for about a minute and a half anyways...I'll call it the double dip.

I always take her to my LHBS. She loves opening all the doors on the bulk grain bins and digging her fingers through the grain, spilling it all over the floor.

Not sure if the owner likes me much,...but who really cares!?!
