So everything was going well, I felt a million times more comfortable than the first time I brewed two weeks ago. The only small issue I had was while adding my bittering hops I had a small boil over. It wasn't too bad, I was right there to turn the heat down and only a little bit of break material actually spilled over. I had a great idea (so I thought) of pouring my cooled wort into my bottling bucket through a strainer and then opening the spigot into my 6 gallon glass carboy. I was topping off w/ 2 gallons and I thought this would be a great way to remove most of the break and aerate. Everything was going as planned until the very last bit of wort couldn't make it through the strainer. Following my wife's advice, I grabbed a sanitized spoon and attempted to move some of the break out of the way in the strainer for the rest (less than 1/4 gal) of the wort to make it through. I guess she wasn't holding the strainer well enough and then guess what happened? In it went w/ all the goodies I had just strained! I immediately walked over to my kitchen sink which was housing about four inches of iodophor solution and dunked my arms the best I could for about a minute and then fished the strainer out of the bucket. I lost about 50-60% of the sediment and my arms went into the wort about an inch past where I sanitized them...
I really hope I didn't just trash this batch. Lesson learned.... don't listen to your chick's advice and make sure you have a good hold on your stuff before messing with it.
