I just brewed a Sierra Nevada clone and a Franziskaner Hefe clone, both were partial mash from AHBS.

First was the Sierra Nevada: I used an alcohol booster so my OG was 1.060 let it sit for a total of 23 days @ ~68 degrees in the primary, dry hopped for the last 10 days. I had a FG of 1.009 it looked, smelled and tasted awesome at bottling time.

I enjoyed the partial mash process SO MUCH MORE than extract brewing that I ran to AHBS and got the Franziskaner clone a couple days after the Sierra Nevada started fermenting.

I felt really good about the first brew so I decided to try liquid yeast for the first time on the Franziskaner.

I have read on HBT about how awesome Wyeast 3068 was for hefe's so I went with that.

I didn't get a booster for this one and I hit the expected OG of 1.052.

Fermented a little warm (for banana ester) @ 68 for 3 days and finished at 70-71 for the last 6 days, so 9 days total. I got a FG of 1.010

I deviated from the recipe a little by adding 1/4 ounce more of each of the flavoring hops, so we'll see how that turns out... :cross:

Here are a few pics of the awesomeness that is home brewing :mug:

...and a few of my set up at work, I've been fermenting E.coli bacteria for about 12 years, so I figured that making my own beer couldn't be that hard.

Whoa, fermenting E. Coli? And in my naiveté I ask - for what purpose, pray tell?

We have a SN clone fermenting happily away - second time we've made it. It's AG though. But everyone who has tasted it has said they like it better than the original!

Hope yours both turn out to be something you'd like to enjoy frequently.

The E.coli is used to replicate specific proteins that are then extracted and purified via HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography)

:D The fermentation side is a 3 day process, with the final day being anywhere from 10 to 14 hours long. Good thing I'm hourly ;)

If I could just get paid to make awesome beer... :drunk:

Yeah, I sure hope these both turn out as good as the real beers, or better! The SN clone smelled AMAZING...way better than the real deal.

In my opinion anyways. I did taste the sample too and it was good but its hard for me to get past the fact that its @ room temp and flat at that stage. I know all I'm checking is that its on the right track and not sour or funky in some other way.

I am really pumped about these brews! it's been a good 2 years since I've brewed, and all my other brews were boring canned extracts.

But they still seemed to be enjoyed by everyone I offered them too.

My next brew mission is kegging and building a keezer or buying kegerator and building a bar for my house. I have seen some awesome DIY write ups on here that have inspired me to keep going.

Well, both beers turned out really awesome. So now I'm about to embark on a 90min journey down hop lane. Let ya know how that turns out.ImageUploadedByHome Brew1398733576.681831.jpgImageUploadedByHome Brew1398733596.751877.jpgImageUploadedByHome Brew1398733636.832287.jpg
