Anyone heard about Zwanze yet?
*Stares at email*

Nope.

I've been informed to look for my loser email.. The email precursor to my loser email was enough for me

My buddy texted me a picture of his "winner" email....

Hes rubbing it in because he knows I can't go. Arsehole.

Anyone know if any aspect of Jester King will be open outside of the Zwanze event that I lost miserably at?

I will be in town for work during this time and Saturday is really the only day I can make it...

Yes, our tasting room will be open as normal. We'll have Zwanze Day up the hill from the brewery.

I posed this same question on BA. I don't think a lottery is a bad way of allocating tickets, but I'm definitely open to suggestion. I'm familiar with how some other sites around the country allocate tickets, but I'm sure there's someone out there among the 40 or so sites doing it better than us. What might be a better way than a ticket lottery?

Given the demand it may be the best way. That or a random unannounced in person sale like degardebrewing

I'll be @ Crooked Stave for Zwanze...and what I hear is...they do first come first serve. I don't think it would work for you guys. There's just no pleasing people. I'm sure I'll be freaking plastered way before Zwanze is tapped...since there's a bottle share starting at 7:30am. Sheesh.

I'll start by saying I am pro-lottery, as it does seem most equitable. I did not win this year or last year, but was at Zwanze day 2013 and 2014 (pre-lottery). Both of those years, I helped cleanup after the massive bottle shares.

But since you're soliciting ideas, modifications to that lottery that wouldn't be too logistic-intensive would be the first thing to try.
1. Lottery half the tickets online, and half from in-person sign ups a month before the event. People who can't make it have a chance, people who go in-person might have a smaller pool to compete with.
Or even better, count that IP sign-up as an extra entry, i.e. everyone can get an online chance, people who make it out IP get two chances (if they also sign up online).

2. Look at who spends the most at the brewery in the prior 9-12 months (I'm not in retail, maybe this works?). Allocate a certain number of tickets to that group and hold a smaller lottery for them. Yes, this would likely only work for CC transactions, but it may be worth it to help out the top supporters. I use cash for 90% of my tap room and fruited sour purchases, so I'd actually be at a disadvantage to CC only people (by at least $500), but I'd still support this.

Either way, Reserve some tickets for OTT staff or members/volunteers, if not already done. They're aiding the movement against stifling TX beer laws.

Cheers!

I'd say that the lottery is the fairest way to do it, although giving winners the exclusive right to Zwanze pours, the bottle share, Cantillon pours, AND Cantillon bottles seems too concentrated. You could spread the lambic love a little more by having 200 winners for the Zwanze pour, 200 for the Cantillon bottles, and then having the other special kegs and the bottle share be open to the public?

Also, it might help reduce the mountain of entries if people were forced to sign up with their CC info and they were immediately charged if selected.

Either way, your beers this year have been better than ever - keep up the awesomeness!

I think I agree the benefits are too concentrated. I could see just doing a lottery for the Zwanze keg. I wonder if we'd be asking for trouble if we did everything first come, first served?

I think all the Cantillon pours should be done via lottery with some limited number of pours per person (similar to Zwanze in 2014, with the limit depending on how much beer you have and/or how many attendees you want) and either FCFS for everyone or based on a time-slot.

As mwbbq said, it would also be nice to open up the bottle share to everyone, but if you wanted to cap attendees for that, you could just do a free ticket sale/lottery on that and limit the number of tickets.

All that said, I don't really mind the current lottery system.

Have second round emails gone out?

Not like I'm expecting to get in, but I'm holding on to a strand of hope.

Have a friend that won the second chance Zwanze drawing, but can't make it out due to other obligations. Think the gap between the first and second drawings was too large. People just assumed they weren't gonna win and made other plans. I understand a 3rd drawing would be a ton of work for not many spots. However, wish we could do some sort of proxy/transfer for these situations...

This is where it should be first come, first serve for the remaining spots.
