Those JK shares were the best and one of the main reasons I would make the drive down. Meeting the community and drinking great brews was fantastic at Jester King. But yes, this was a privilege that Jeff and his staff gave us. I would always make sure to bring some extras that I would hand off to Jeff so that he could give them to his staff to share amongst themselves.

I don't think its something that could happen anymore however. The brewery is just so big now and such a prime destination now that I think it would be just too much to handle and oversee now. Great memories but I think it should stay that way.

Generally speaking, we don't allow bottle shares, except on rare occasions, because we want people to buy beer from us. Our business model changed dramatically following the 2013 legislation that allowed brewpubs to sell onsite and through the distribution tier. Yes we've had some issues with bottle shares prior, but I don't hide the fact that we rarely allow them because we want people to purchase beer (or wine, cider, sake, mead) from us during their visit to Jester King.

Can you open on-site sales early tomorrow?

Not allowing shares during business hours (excepting special events like Zwanze) is all good. I went to Funk n Sour 2015 and there was no need for a share with the quality of beer and food parings!

But it's kind of a bummer to show up at X AM for a release and draft sales don't start til 12 PM. I am aware you need the person-power to do that, but these bigger releases aren't weekly. It's not hard to imagine 200 people buying pours before noon. Take the line that you probably aren't a fan of (doesn't jive with the target experience) and turn it into a celebration of the beer and sense of place instilled into each bottle and keg you brew :)

But if you're not selling, perhaps allows a few outside things to be opened? No one would begrudge sharing with the staff ;)

I just posted this:

We appreciate and are flattered by the interest in our Gin Barrel Nocturn Chrysalis bottle release tomorrow! Please know we will be throwing all our resources at the bottle release line and expect it to move quickly. Although we accept cards, we encourage you to have the appropriate amount of cash at the ready ($14/bottle) in order to make the line run even faster. We ask you to please not show up before 8am, as that is when our parking attendants arrive. Also, please respect the fact that people live onsite at the ranch, and we do not want to disturb their peace and privacy. As normal, no outside alcohol is permitted at Jester King, and we will not sell bottles to intoxicated patrons. Thanks again for your interest. We look forward to a smooth release tomorrow.

I'm still bummed I have to go to work at 11 tomorrow, which means I will miss out on this bottle. Hopefully one of my friends will share one with me.

Guys. Please don't turn this into BA 2.0. Seriously.
What's the issue? This is a rolling conversation thread on a beer forum populated by people who are interested in what's going on at JK. Garrett has taken part in it, and now Jeff has decided to occasionally pop in and participate. The new bathrooms have been covered... All good stuff.

I think the issue is that people begin making special requests thinking they are more important. For instance your request, while innocent and not unreasonable, leads to the next question. If they are opening early then why wouldn't the line start earlier. And if they allow "a few outside things to be opened" there's no way to control what that entails. While I know you are reasonable and would respect JK's wishes, this quickly spreads to the point brought up earlier (if people can bring beer then I'm bringing a 30 pack!). Point being breweries shouldn't be making special accommodations for ********* who line up multiple hours ahead of time for a beer. They already do enough for us idiots.

I'll end with this.
Ya as much as I hate potentially missing out on Atrial and any coolship release they really need to do a lottery for those (on site only to register for lottery?). After travelling to various hyped breweries i can confidently say that the experience at Jester King is second to none and that's really what they should highlight. Just one man's opinion but I hope it's the route they take...

While I recognize this is somewhat in contradiction with my above point about breweries accommodating our requests I personally believe this is the best way to maintain JK's sense of place and minimize work on their part while getting their beers out to the public.

Hopefully at least 47% of that made sense. Ive had a few beers and that was way more typing than i planned. Back to drinking and just to keep it TB....

We will be releasing Atrial Rubicite at our brewery over the course of two consecutive weekends — the weekend of Friday, August 30th through Sunday, September 1st (Labor Day weekend) and Friday, September 6th through Sunday, September 8th. We’ve developed a system for our Atrial Rubicite bottle release that we think is fair, flexible, efficient and will hopefully avoid long lines, unnecessary waiting, getting up early, and other annoyances. Here’s how is works...

I respectfully disagree. shelf_turd_ferguson was making a suggestion for JK to open up the tap room early for folks waiting in like. That isn't entirely unreasonable, and JK would stand to make more money from it. The issue, as he mentioned, is probably manpower. Otherwise I'm sure JK would have no issues selling us idiots more beer. :)

It's the openness and (sometimes brutal) honesty of this community that makes it both special and terrible. All things considered, this is all pretty subdued! Then, perhaps I'm still used to Florida levels of shitlordery and entitlement.

Re-reading my post one point didn't come across well enough that is the main contradiction to your argument. So let's walk through it a bit.

Currently they open at Noon. For the sake of argument let's say people start lining up at 10am.

Oh what's that? Now they are serving beer at 10am and the release is at Noon still? Well **** then I'll get there at 8am since then it's only 2 hrs without beer instead of 4!

See where I'm going with this? It doesn't solve the problem. It just pushes it earlier, which means parking lot attendants earlier, staff earlier, and actually just means even longer lines. The deterrent to the line at this point is standing in the heat with no beer and nothing else to do (besides the fact of value of time to people which to beer nerds is 0$/hr). If you provide an alleviate to that issue then people can just justify showing up even earlier further putting more onus on JK themselves.

Damn I should write essays when I'm drunk... also it's still TB soooooo

Well, ****.

It wouldn't be a special release without it.

I like to imagine this release devolving into a music festival atmosphere with a bunch of garbage people sliding around in the mud.

I'm sure that won't happen though. Wouldn't want to sully your $400 selvedge crop pants and $600 shoes made to look like you found them at an Oliver Twist costume auction.

Took a peek over at BA to see what was going on over there.

I don't know how jeffstuffingsjk deals with it half the time. I would have ragequit by now. ;)

From everything I've heard the line from people on the ground it was a great success... hopefully that continues into the eventual Atrial release.

I had to close my browser reading that thread before I unloaded on that guy and got myself banned for....the third or 4th time from BA. (I'm mostly there to read the trade threads and laugh)

Really well run release....
Big ups to the jester king staff for working early, hard, and succeeding on a smooth release!

This can't be said enough. jeffstuffingsjk and everyone at JK needs a big hug and acknowledgement. That could have been a mess. They did a great job. Most impressive release they have had IMO, logistics wise. Great time all around.

I don't think its possible for me to man-love you more than I do right now. Srs

I really couldn't have hoped for a smoother release. Opening bottle sales an hour early was nice. And the speed at which people were helped, holy crap, I mean what an improvement. I'm sure opening early and having all those iPads dedicated to sales helped move things so much faster. Plus staff could be at that tent versus the tap room. I was 200+ in line and had my bottle before 1130am.

Having the tap room open early would be nice, but I'm sure staffing is the main issue.

Overall it was the best release yet. Thanks jeffstuffingsjk

But how was the beer?
Everything I've heard was very gin forward/hot right now. So maybe sit on it a few months. ;)

****, one of you guys better open one when I'm around. I love gin so much. Maybe I'll share a Shatrial with ya. ;)

Unfortunately with End of Month stuff, I felt working was in my best interest today. Ah well.

One of the easiest going, smoothest releases I've been to. Got lucky with the weather clearing up in not too long. It turned into a beautiful day to hang out and enjoy a couple beers. The pour lines ran quite smoothly, too.

Good seeing a lot of you guys!

I missed you passing through Houston, so I'll have to try to meet you whenever I'm down there net! Used to be monthly, but now I'm so busy it's like every 3-4 months. Zwanze day was fun.
