I have this on the stove right now so my OG isn't exact, but will be within a few points.

45 min. mash @ 148-150, sparge @ 170, boil 60 min. (added FWH @ 75 min.)

FERMENTABLES
6 lbs. extra light DME
.5 lbs. amber malt
.5 lbs. crystal 40

HOPS
1oz. warrior @ FWH
.5 oz. pacific jade @ 20
.5 oz. pacific jade @ 10
1 oz. pacific jade @ 5

YEAST
S-05 (because I fear change)

This is my first time using P.J., but I tried an all-New Zealand ale a while ago and was blown away. I know warrior doesn't fit in the Zealand category, but I wanted to bitter with something I trusted.

I'll update in 2 weeks.

*EDIT* It only came out to 5 gallons, and the OG was in fact 1.050.

Just bottled yesterday. She tasted nore bitter than I thought it would, but I really like the taste of the Jade hops. I'll know more in a week.

Just had my 1st, 2nd, and 3rd one.

It's not as bitter as I thought it would be. I thought the Pacific Jade would be a little more flavorful (something a little more forward like cascade), but the flavor is pretty subdued. I like the balance between malt and hops, but I was hoping for more of a hop forward brew.

Honestly, it's a pretty good Pale Ale...just not an IPA.

I had the same experience with pacific jade... I have found it plays well with other hops though.

It tastes like it might go very well with Citra, and might give a nice background bitterness and slight citrus ting. Maybe Jade at 20 and 10, then Citra at 5 or 0 would be nice.

OR a 50/50 combo of Jade and Centennial. I'll have to hit the recipe book to whip something up!

Well the beer got a pretty good reception at my friends house. One of my buddies is a hop-head, the other is coming around to the idea. Both agreed that it was a nice transition beer for future HopLovers.
