I almost don’t want to say anything so that I can hoard for myself, but Finkle and Garf in Boulder cans a phenomenal straight BB Stout that tastes almost exactly like pre-format change BCBS.
Actually, never mind it sucks. No one needs to find it.

So, about this (hypothetical) Boulder Beer, is it year-round, or do I need to ISO shortly after this deep freeze?
Or could I find it on a potential July work trip?
back in may i remember having this super solid ba stout!

super tasty, vanilla and barrel. my notes state it’s a winner
if only this place existed i’d get more![]()
Where is that from?
Vanilla notes or actual vanilla (because the latter would be a violation of thread rules)?
it’s from some brewery in boulder, vanilla all barrel
love the event horizon. Happy it never caught on. Just that much easier to get.Anyone remember this blast from the past? (sorry about the old photo downloaded from Untappd, best I've got):

Olde Hickory Event Horizon was one of the few early BA stouts coming out of the Carolinas, although the early NC/SC shitlords never managed to hype it to the same level as early BA Sexual Chocolate or Blackbeerd vintages, and so it never caught quite the same backlash for not being as good or as rare as the hype tried to suggest. Which is probably a good thing, because it's soldiered along as a nice regional seasonal release that has never required *too* much effort to track down. And it's always been solid.
Well, after a label change in 2014, and now a recipe change that has cranked the ABV up from ~8.5% to almost 12%, it's in 12oz bottles at the quite reasonable price of $18 for a 4-pack:

It's a very nice beer, with lots of chocolate and bourbon notes, and will definitely satisfy your BA stout cravings at a reasonable price for something so accessible. I can't get more BA Expedition locally, but this is a solid regional substitute.

Appervation was so good. Haven't had the new port barrel version, but that original bourbon one was just about perfect.
the appervation i posted was the 2nd batch. never had the first. i've got the port barrel version as well. probably let it sit for a bit in case there's a lot of port, which is not always to my liking.
Ahh, didn't realize there were two batches of bourbon, thought "batch 2" was all port with the purplish logo.
IG tells alllllIt was my understanding that they released a new batch of the bourbon with the port version.

One of my favorites, just don’t like the price tag.
And I’ll add that I really, really miss Mephistopheles stout.
Straight Mephistopheles was better than Tweak, Uncle Jacobs, or any other stout that Avery puts out/has put out, at least among anything I've had. Really outstanding with a few years on it to mellow a bit.
The draft only coffee version of it they used to serve at festivals (Meph Addict, later renamed Tweak before they used that name for the BA version) was pretty crazy. Had enough coffee in it to give you the shakes.
I got sent one in a BIF. They sent it as a joke because they had heard it was infected. The joke was on them because it was delicious.I remember being ISO the 12 oz. of Capricho Oscuro like 7 years ago.
Probably need to stop by Avery in a few weeks when I go to a brewery around the corner that doesn’t exist to pick up a beer that has never been made.![]()
