Thanks Dave. She will go a week before the operation for an all day pre-op session which will include a visit to the anesthesiologist along with an MRI and whatever else they do. The surgeon is the head of the department and one of the best on the east coast.

So Revvy, it's been a hell of a long time since your surgery and it seems like you still have some serious BS to deal with. What's a typical day like for you right now and exactly how long has it been? Almost a year, correct? I see that you have had other issues unrelated to what my wife will have to deal with.

Hey, if anyone pops in here, I just wanted to mention that one of our members Boswell is having Mitral Valve surgery today....so hold him in your thoughts.

I may be in line for that one of these years. I'm 68 1/2 and am getting checked every 6 months to see if things are getting worse. Doc told me to keep doing whatever I want as long as it don't hurt. I still work out at the gym twice a week before bowling for 2 hrs. I hike twice a week doing anything from 3-12 miles a day. Doc said on a scale of 1-4 I'm a 3, but as of now I'm still goin strong.

Good luck to all old or young w/their health.

My wife had open heart surgery about 5 years ago at 45. She found out she needed a bypass by having a heart attack. If anything its mellowed her out and we eat healthier. Good Luck.

Man you guys make me feel old.

I'm only 27, but my weight gain lately is out of control.

At our age you can reverse that simply with 20min cardio 5 days a week and making simple food substitutions (i.e. brown rice instead of white, etc.)

I'm 6'4" and I've weighed between 200 and 215 for the last 8 or 9 years just by making simple adjustments.

215 at 6'4" puts you at a BMI of 26.2. Overweight starts at 25. Just saying this 'cause I'm also at or just over the "overweight" line as well, even though most people tell me I'm not. Only takes a few pounds to go over, and I can feel it.

Many people who think I'm skinny are actually obese (>30 BMI) and don't know it. Certainly we have a health care crisis in the U.S. with over 50% predicted to be obese by 2030! Just the increase in obesity from 2008 to 2030 is expected to cost $48-66 billion/year in health care costs!

Beer drinkers can do well by following your advice. I'm of the mind (at 60) that a good beer and some good(healthy) food is most enjoyed after a good hike, day of skiing, windsurfing or bike ride. It's when I drink and eat without regular exercise is when I creep over the line. Important for me, as heart disease is common on one side of my family. The numbers say it's important for others, as well.

Hey Revvy,
They just called me from the transplant center, the Docs are enroute to harvest a liver, if they like it it's mine.
Could have this (new to me) liver in stalled in the morning. They will call back around midnight to let me know if I need to go to the hospital. It could be the real deal.

I keep Y'all posted one way or the other.
Charlie

Charliec, All my best to you. I work at a major transplant hospital in the area and work in these cases quite a bit. I will be praying for your smooth recovery.

Don't let 'em talk you into the extended warranty. Never a good deal on used merchandise.

Wishing you the best!

I didn't get the liver, I only hope the person who did needed it more than me! The fact that I am getting offers is great, I ll get my turn soon enough. Thanks for all the positive thoughts and prayers.

Revvy,

They can rebuild you. They have the technology.....

Feel better mang. I'm sure you'll be right as rain after the surgery. I had brain surgery myself this past summer and keep pace with your rehab, but don't push it. You'll be a little bit tired and exhausted at first, but you'll be back to chasing skirts in no time.

Uh...you may have not noticed, but the surgery was a YEAR ago.....;)

But thanks anyway. :mug:

*sigh* LOL

It's hard to believe a year ago I was all freaked out. And I think today was the anniversary of the day they called and bumped the surgery till the 22nd.

It's unreal that it's been a year since they cut me open.

So lets see, you havent just survived but thrived after heart surgery and continue to brew while owning harleys and other decidely manly pursuits... I must say, if you cry at the movies, that would be kinda unacceptable...

Revvy,
Hope everything goes well for you tommorrow on the table. It is a fairly common procedure and you should be up and atem in a day or at the most 2, The longer you stay in bed the longer it will take to completely recover
