Hi everybody,
I've been lurking here for several weeks and have enjoyed what I've seen on the forum so far, so I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Jeff, and I live in northern Virginia. I had been toying with the idea of home brewing for a couple of decades. I remember looking at the Sears Christmas catalog as a kid back in the '_0's, and they had "Make Your Own Beer" kits. I thought, "Maybe when I grow up..." Then I found out that a friend of mine brewed and I sat in on several brew sessions. His homebrews that he had sitting in kegs were really good, and I was hooked. Then I found that a new in-law also brewed. He was kind enough to donate some equipment, and my wife bought the rest of the gear I needed as a birthday gift. The rest...is history. Or - it will be once I get a few brews under my belt.
Last Tuesday, I conducted my very 1st homebrew session with my new gear. It's a Northern Brewers extract kit w/Specialty Grains - the Honey Brown Ale. The brew went well, and it's sitting in the primary right now. I had a very vigorous fermentation underway with lots of bubbles kicking in sometime between 24 and 36 hours. The bubbles have since trailed off (at the beginning of the 6th day) and now it's sitting there waiting for time to pass. I'll probably rack it to secondary at the 2 week mark, rather than let it sit in primary for 3 weeks. Needless to say, I'm excited, and anxiously awaiting the day when I can crack open that 1st bottle of my own beer!

Welcome to the addiction Jeff! Sounds like you got everything under control. There's nothing like popping the top on your own beer for the first time. Good luck!

Hey, Jeff! Come down to Richmond for some beer!

I get there every now and then...I have relatives in Chester. I've bought some of my gear at the Weekend Brewer. Haven't been to the Capitol Ale Houses in the Richmond area, but I never turn down a chance to go the one in Fredericksburg.

Welcome to homebrewing. I go to weekend brewer often to get supplies.

Can't wait! Then we'll see just how "under control" I have it! But, if not....then RDWHAHB! :ban:
