Is this bad?

This is my second brew, but it looks like there might be bacteria or something growing on the surface after 1 week (the dark area). My first brew wasn't like this. Does this look bad?

lol. its looks fine then. that would have been helpful in the original post.( i clicked on un answered threads and did not see the sub forum) with that said i dont brew konbucha so it looks like your waiting for someone else to chime in.
how does it taste /smell?

Black I have not seen. Unless someone else can validate that it is ok...throw it all away.

How many tea bags did you use in your starter? That does affect coloring but usually brown in my experience.

Wish I could tell you more. If it is mold it will eventually become fuzzy.
