Hi Guys and Gals,

I got a carboy from my dad an I didn't realize that the bung he gave me had a chunk missing from the side of it so it would not form a good seal. It was sitting this way for a week. I just realized today and now there are small bits of something floating on the top of the beer that I haven't seen before. Not sure if this is an infection and what to do from here.

Any insight helps.

Thanks! :mug:

Not infected. Looks like hoppy trub that floated to the top. Pretty normal. Give it a good shake and they might fall to bottom. Proceed normally.

[edit] probably don't want to shake a glass carboy, especially on that granite surface.

I does not look like infection but I am not a scientist. A lot of my bottles look like that.

Sierra Nevada seems to have a slight leak in their fermenters but that doesn't seem to make bad beer. Yours looks fine to me.

any idea what the yellow Is? The white is the kraus, the brown is some of the yeast but I've never seen the yellow before...infection maybe?
