Today I ground malt for my next beer. Didn't have anything to follow, just used the grains I thought would make a decent strong dark beer for the upcoming dark days of winter.

7 lbs. German Pils
3 lbs. Munich Light 10L
1 lb. Caramel/Chrystal 120L
.5 lb. Carafa 2

Hops will be 3.6% Hallertau pellet. 2 ounces for 60 minutes.

Yeast will be 4th generation 34/70 repitch.

It will be used in a BIAB. Final volume will be about 4.8 gallons.

When I plugged this in to the Brewers Friend calculator it came up as a Baltic Porter or Strong Scotch Ale, among others.

I'm wondering if this looks like a Baltic Porter to more experienced brewers.

Thanks,
Bruce

It is fermented with a lager strain or cold fermented with an ale strain.

Baltic is quite broad style but to me it should be more roasty and robust than american or english versions. For example, one of the best i have tasted, is a finnish beer, Sinebrychoff Porter. Very strong flavor, lots of coffee notes. It's kinda like a low alcohol version of a RIS, less hops too.

Per BJCP (if anyone cares), Baltic porter has 6.5% ABV minimum.

My favorite, Baltika #6, isn't roasty, just a smooth molasses and cocoa type thing but way more complex than that, the complexity coming from probably a complex malt bill and higher ABV.

Yeast doesn't much matter IMO. This style is all about the malt.
