i brewed a batch the other day with a sg of 1.096 and i didnt think about it till now. will one vial of wlp001 be enough for that gravity? should i run to go get more yeast or just rdwhahb?
it strains the yeast, it will ferment but like mentioned above, will more than likley produce off flavors (mild), and may finish high.
I have done this same thing in the past, but Mrmalty.com is a great resource to use for pitching amounts.
any of the couple beers that I severely under pitched still turned out alright, don't sweat it and I dont know how this would work, but you can always pitch another vial of wlp001
That yeast has a high alcohol tolerance. Even so, it would have been good to do a starter or to add two vials of yeast instead of one. I would take a hydrometer reading if the fermentation has settled down and if it isn't where you want it, pitch some more yeast. You won't hurt much by pitching more yeast if there is still plenty of sugar in there to ferment
