Is my scoby alive?

This is my first time to try to make kombucha. I order a scoby and made a small amount. I immediately poured that (liquid and scoby) into a second attempt. This is what my scoby looks like. Is it alive? It has been about 3 weeks now, with room temps at about 70 degrees. Should I taste it? I am sure these sound like dumb questions.

It looks fine. Taste the liquid and see if it's still sweet tea or if its tart.
