I took a gravity reading if my Meade after a fortnight and my reading says 1.048 and 7% alcohol by volume. Is that okay? (The orginal gravity was 1.117 and SG was 1.17). Thanks!

You are fine, 2 weeks into primary and looks like you are well on the way. Wait for your SG to read the same for two concecutive times a couple days apart. Depending on the yeast and nutrient additions you should bottom out with a SG (FG) near 1.000 plus or minus a bit. Oh, and your SG and OG should be the same i suspect you had a typo. 1.170 is ceazy high! For clarity, your starting SG is your OG.

Quite right! I read the card I had my info on backwards from the way I had it ! I feel like I can relax a bit! Thank so much! I somehow feel like an expectant parent again!

No worries. We all fret a bit over our creations. Nothing wrong with checking on the forum if you are not sure about something.

I am so thankful I found this site and really appreciate everyone's help! It is a relief to my sons too, I have been bothering them on the matter, rather making the one crazy too I guess. Now if I have a question, I know someone here has more knowledge than any of us have! Hopefully that all changes tho and this will be only one of many delicious creations and I'll learn much knowledge on the way, then, one day, I can help someone in return like y'all have helped me!!!

Here is what the meade is looking like!

Thanks! The large bottle to the left is a 3 gallon Better Bottle and the two 1 gallon glass jugs are from Mogan David that I recycled.

I love my 3 gallon Better Bottle. To make it easier to carry I built a simple wooden tote for it. Also serves as a stand to hold the bottle upside down to drain when cleaning it.

Oh wow, that's so cool and genius!!! I wish I had carpentry skills! I have my sons move the jugs around for me. I am simply not strong enough to lift them.

I hear ya. I need help too (old fart that I am). Try lifting one of these - the glass carboy alone is probably 15 lb then 5 gallons of cider make it almost 60 lbs.

That is a beautiful site in your carboy! Yeah, no way I'd be able to lift it, I'd have to drink it all first and even then I'd be too drunk to lift the thing, even at 15 lbs!
