Uh Oh? So I made a 3 gallon batch of Blackberry Apple Cider this past week I call it Cell Phone Cider.. With Safale S-04 yeast.
30ozs of frozen Blackberries and 2.75 gallons of pressed apple juice.

Well it was fermenting away for a couple days, Last night I looked at it and it seemed ok.
This morning I checked it and the Bung and airlock were tossed out of it and some blackberries were scattered in the area.

I quickly rigged up a blow-off system for it and went off to work.

Now do you think the time that the 2 inch hole of my glass fermenter was exposed that it got infected? Or do you think it was pumping enough CO2?
It is in my basement in an unused shower.

RDWHAHB! There are people that take off the entire lids of their buckets over and over again during fermentation and don't seem to have any issues. I doubt the small hole is a problem. There is probably plenty of escaping CO2 keeping stuff from hurting your beer.

I've had several of mine that blow the Carboy cap off and I haven't caught them for days. As long as the fermentation is still active you should be fine, I haven't had a problem with any of mine yet :)

Also you could also run some tubing from your primary over and down to a bucket with water in it. That way it would catch the run off and still restrict bacteria from entering.
