Or does anyone else notice that bees tend to start showing up once you start boiling wort?

I swear, on about 50% of my batches so far, I've seen bees suddenly hovering near my garage and kettle once the steam starts rising! I keep daring them to try it, but none seem to have the balls :D

They can smell the wort. And are way smarter than we give them credit for. I haven't had those issues, but I haven't really brewed outside in summer... Haven't had the best temp control for fermentation during summer. I just have a big build up of brews to keep me drinking something when I can't brew.

Have had hummingbirds show up all of a sudden, pretty sure they smell the sugar too.

Well it might just be you;) Over here, I sometimes have problems with bugs hovering around the sparging wort. I've found these GA bugs don't seem to want to push their luck with the steaming boil:drunk:

Stupid wasp wouldn't leave me alone today. I wasn't worried about him getting in my wort though, bugs are high in protein so it'd probably just coagulate and fall out before I racked.

I'm a beekeeper and had that happen last winter. It was cold out, but this lone honeybee from my hive shows up hoovering around the boiling wort. I suppose the combination of warmth and sweetness is too much to ignore. They have well-honed senses for sure.

I have to brew inside for same reason, I have bees and they love the sugar. Plus i dont have garage to keep them out

Maybe we're onto something new... beer infused with bee carcases :rockin:

I wouldn't doubt it if Sam Calagione over at Dogfish Head has already tried it...

the beez, wasps dont bother me,but those damn flys..I love winter time brewing. no bugs. my biggest problem is when I tap a fresh keg all my friends show up thirsty.

I get bees in Nebraska, mainly when its early spring or mid-fall. When its warm enough for bees to be active, but the flowers/pollen sources are all dead.

I literally killed over 90 bees during one November brew session in 2009
