Sticky, drippy strawberry, grass, feint herbal hobs, and subtle tome funk. Outstanding bottle (November Etre order)

Picked this up a couple days ago so I assume it's a recent batch. I've only had this once a couple years back and it was a smokey bottle so I don't really count that; had Magic Ghost and Pissenlit and enjoyed both recently. This, though... ****. Probably the best saison I've ever had. Tropical fruit for days and just beautiful, I'm trying as hard as I can to drink this slowly but it's not going well.

Had a couple of friends over yesterday to open some bottles.
Blanche '15 - sick bottle, pours looking like a lava lamp with yeast currents slowly winding through the mix. Flavor is still great though, lots of grapefruit.

Tonka - On of my favorite releases from last year, a bit more bitter than the first bottle I opened, but the spices in this are really interesting. Less vanilla character than before, but still has that woodsy herbal edge.

Saison '15 - One of the best bottlings I've had in a while, tropical fruit and citrus peel. Nice tart balance. Glad to have more of this batch.

Chocolat '14 - Excellent version of this beer, spices kept really subtle and in perfect balance. Just a hint of heat in the finish and dry cocoa powder.

Extra Sour - This beer is holding up really well, high carbonation really brings out the black pepper. Getting some ginger in the finish along with some dusty brett. Wish I had more of this.

La Gourmande 04 - One of the better bottles of this year I've had, still has some oxidation, but not obnoxious. Yeast is fairly neutral on this year compared to the 02 and 03. Some nice damp basement notes along with the malt make it really nice aged biere de garde.

Noel '09 - These are the Noels that I love. More dry and lightly tart, some oude bruin like flavor from that malty/tartness balance. Some herbal notes still there as well.

Just opened another Sur Lie Saison (latest Etre)... chill haze just like the last 3 recent Santé offerings. Been in the fridge for weeks now... fruit juice or the Fantome Magic won't drop, still very much in suspension! I Love this Beer!!! It reminds me of the tastes of my first Fantomes years ago!!! :)

Mmmmmmmmm!

I havent seen much commentary about this one so I popped it last week to investigate. There is something about drinking fresh Fantomes that seems so foreign to me but I cant help myself when presented with something that is new to me.

The last couple different bottles ive tried now (this one as well) have a very clean saison yeastiness tasting of clove. There is also more bitterness than I typically enjoy but it wasnt overkill. The outstanding trait in this bottling though is lime juice/zest. The closest thing I can compare it to is de Tous Les D'iâpes except Blonde Forest ghost is more bitter and has a very clean yeastiness whereas the former had much more defined house/brett character.

I had one as well, I got a lot of pineapple from it. Agree on the cleaner yeast. Looking forward to trying the dark version this week.

I'm not sure if you've noticed but there has been a lot of Fantome in Portland recently. Bridgetown had a couple of cases of Pissenlit last week.
We did get Hiver and Pissenlit this year! I've been steadily buying them up. I'm cautiously optimistic that with the new Shelton Distribution in Oregon we might see a bit more. Would love to see the Sur Lie available.
