Is Fantome "back"?

QUESTION:

Clos Preal b1 is supposedly quite similar to Extra Sour b1.

I didn't love Extra Sour -- it was fine, but a bit boring. Less of that fun magical yeast ghosty character.

Is Clos Preal worth pursuing? Or will I have the same experience?

I haven't found them to be all that similar, clos not as Brett heavy, more fruity. I really like extra sour, though both were excellent.

Fantome Friday?

I just opened my first bottle of this newest batch....

It was in my garage fridge which is set to maybe 42 degrees. The bottle has set there for 2 weeks undisturbed. I just cracked it open and the beer errupted like a 5th grade science experiment volcano. I placed my face into the stream trying to consume this tometastic discharge. In the process, the force was too strong and I just turned myself into a human tome dragon with ghosty suds shooting out of both nostrils.

I love Fantome... sometimes the experience itself is better than the liquid in the bottle. This was one of those times. This batch tastes like soap. Im leaving a glass sit at room temp for the next hour to sit and think about what it has done. I'll report back with new findings once my eyes stop watering.

Hour after the fact thoughts...

This is soapy and green with yeastiness. It has some fruited qualities reminescent of strawberry and ruby red grapefruit. I dont hate it but im a little saddened that its nothing even remotely similar to the OG batch.

Yeah I keep most of my beers in a big ass wine fridge laying down. The first one of the b2s I opened I pulled right from the fridge, sat upright to pull the cork, and painted my cabinetry. This one I knew to hold upright in the normal fridge for an hour or as long as I could wait, but still opened in the sink.

I like the strawberry on b2, but wanted that huge lemon citrus of b1. I've never been that sensitive to soapyness and don't notice that too much.

I agree about missing the lemon-lime Capri Sun banger that is B1, but I dug the strawberry lemonade character of B2. Didn't get any soapiness in B2. Didn't even get that estery, yeasty character that I get from almost every young Tome I open.

Mine didn't gush, but I also opened it about a month ago at least. Have a bunch more that I plan to sit on.

Did it gush? Is it worth $22? Those are still sitting on shelves around here but I've been afraid to actually buy and open one.
I axed this same question here recently.
Guess I'll try one out.
Really need to get me a proper vessel. (Everyone is laughing at you) Does anybody have a glass FT: for something reasonable ?

just post a thread for the last one they made (glass posted twice on the page before), solid ghost with fill lines on the back). that's the easiest one to acquire, just need to find someone with it that isn't too attached. not sure what it trades for now since i got mine almost 3 years ago but i don't think it should take much. good luck.

Domed a Sante 14 tonight.

It was absolutely stellar.

Like, strawberry, cherry, lime, pineapple...tasted like Hawaiian Punch with funk. A bit of creamy vanilla in there too. Pillowy effervescent mouthfeel a la Art. Closest 'Tome thus far to the 2005 Ete I i still reminisce about.

Poured carefully as per others suggestions to avoid stirring up to much sediment. Very little of the dank pot-like aroma others complained about in this batch. Maybe others' bottles were light skunked? Not mine. Really a phenomenal beer.

*forgot to snap a kill shot so that pic is not mine

I'm going to open my first of Batch 2 on Saturday. I'll report back.

Thanks to SeaWatchman for sharing a bottle of his wedding blend featuring 11/14 Fantome Saison and a blend of 2012/2013/2014 lambic.

Was amazed at how much the Fantome character came through in this blend, and with a little time and more carbonation this would be an all timer.
Are we allowed to know who the proud handycrafter/blender in Belgium was? Im assuming this was not something that was done with the DanyP blessing but if it was thats incredibly awesome and im super jelly regardless of whatever the lambic was.
