I'm not accusing anyone of anything and maybe I just need to watch the show more, but every damn time I watch this damn show the iron chef wins. I watch it on a fairly regular basis, so I feel I've watched it enough to bitch about this. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just being a low level conspiracy theorist?

The only reason i watch iron chef america is for alton brown. i just love that guy As a professional chef i can tell with out a doubt that the chef that are on there are there for a reason. there that good.

The Iron Chef doesn't always win. But they do win ALOT! So it could just be that they are, you know, Iron Chef's and are amazing. Or there really is a conspiracy. Pelican Brief it up buddy.

Did bobby flay ever win on his "throwdown" show?

I'd say almost never. And I don't think he liked it. But he couldn't buy a whole town off. But at that point it's what the people are used to, that's what they like, that's why the person is small town famous.

Yeah, I wondered if that was part of the gimmick of that show. I never saw him win.

I think out of all the shows I have seen I have only seen a contestant win 4 times. But still, the reason why they are Iron Chefs is because they are bad@$$, expetially Morimoto, the Original Iron Chef.

Oh and if noone has ever watched it, its on the cooking channel.

There is a home field advantage to consider as well. Every Iron chef has cooked in that kitchen at least once. Just knowing where stuff is and how to set up your process has to be an advantage.

They have also cooked for the judges multiple times (at least 2-3 of the "standards")...there has to be some advantage to interacting with them, knowing what they like, what they eat, etc.

One time only that I know of; vs Juniors Cheesecake NYC.

Bobby's a fellow New Yorker and I have a feeling they know each other REALLY well, otherwise ; NEVER.

I have seen the contestants win a few times. Think about it, the concept of the show is not something that is simple to do. Yeah yeah yeah a few hours before the show both sides are given the "secret" ingredient and time in test kitchen. But the Iron Chefs know how to manage that hour because they have practice.

How can you guys watch that show and appreciate what they make? You can't taste it!

I've watched a few times and in the end I always feel cheated. I mean, when you watch a race, you can plainly see who won. On a cooking competition, you can't taste it, so how do you know which one you'd really prefer?

Some of the stuff they make it just kills me that I can't try it just to experience what it might taste like.

I can't say why I don't watch the show more. I always have found the actual cooking process exciting and educational.

What I read once was that the Iron Chef and Challenger are given a short list of something like 5 possible secret ingredients, and are allowed to bring a slew of favorite ingredients with them. What they are trying to prevent is the "milk challenge" from the original series, where Iron Chef Chen Kinichi (I think it was) and a Chinese food Challenger were presented with the secret ingredient... milk. Milk is NOT huge in Chinese cookery (which is why you see so many Kosher Chinese restaurants throughout this city and others.) One judge actually pushed a plate away, as it was inedible.

Good TV? Absolutely! But from what I hear the challenger felt forced to retire.

I'm happy Bobby Flay isn't the top of the list... I like Symon.

However, I really watch it for Alton B's commentary. Does the Asian guy say "A la cuisine"?

The way I heard it works is they are given three ingredients, one of which is going to be the secret ingredient. They get there dishes together and then right before they start they choose one.

Never was a fan of Iron Chef America since I had been watching the original Iron Chef when they starting airing it in the states. It was all about the culture shock/disgust factor. But you knew it was bad when the the chefs would cringe at the secret ingredient. Did anyone see the sea cucumber episode. It was like watching a train wreck.
