hello,
Does anyone know why the output light on my IPB-16 is flashing every 4 seconds? The unit seems to be working ok, but when it reaches SV it just flashes every 4 seconds. I assume it’s some type of warning/failure code.
Thanks!

Unless im not understanding you thats how it maintains temp.. it pulses the element on and off to keep it at the setpoint. if the element output just stayed on the temp would keep climbing.

Yes. After I wrote that I figured I should clarify. . It’s not the pulsing. I know it does that when approaching SV and to hold temp. This is doing it when the SV is reached and being held. It’s definitely some type of code because it’s every 4 seconds. Thanks though!

when the temp is reached the pid has to continue to turn the output on and off sometimes every few second to maintain the temp... it really depends on temp and and other enviromental conditions. Maybe there is some sort of setting on that pid to go to manual duty cycle mode once SV is reached? If it really is consistently every 4 seconds exactly it could be in manual mode somehow. If it just seems like every 4 seconds and the behavior changes if you change the set point to be a few degrees higher or lower , Than it would seem its behaving as normal.
Another possibility is the 4 second on off indicator is just something the firmware is set to make the led behave when the setpoint is reached?

I’m brewing again tomorrow so I’ll see if it still happens. I actually timed it with a stop watch and it was 4seconds. Hopefully a good rest and it’ll be back to normal tomorrow! Thanks again!

What is your PID's output cycle time set to? I'm guessing 4 seconds.

Looked up the user manual, and the default control period is ... 4 seconds. You unit is working as designed.
Brew on :mug:

I was going to ask what the cycle time was set to as well... im suprised if a steady boil can be achieved in manual mode with that 4 second cycle time.. my mypin pids came set as 1 second by default and the boil is very smooth.. something to keep in mind.

Hmmm. Thanks everyone. If it’s normal, I’ve never noticed it before! I’ll check the settings tomorrow. Thanks so much. You guys rock!

I just changed it to 1. I’ll see if it makes a difference tomorrow. Thanks again.

Nice to see I’m not the only one up early. I mashed in at 5:45am this morning! So I changed it to 1, and it’s doing the same thing but every 1 second instead of 4. Obviously it’s working as it’s supposed to, I just never noticed it doing that before and I’ve used this 50+ times. So thanks everyone. Mystery solved!
