Hey sorry for the delay on this. I haven't been to any of the HyVee's in about a week but the usual best bets for TG is the Bettendorf store, the 53rd Street & Utica Ridge Rd store and the stand alone HyVee Wine and Spirits on West Kimberly Rd by the Wal Mart. You'll always find the 4 packs of TG bottles, probably Rover Truck, Dorothy's and maybe Golden Nugget. Now that they go through a distributor in pretty sure you can find some at any HyVee. Bombers are hot and miss. I can stop by the Bettendorf store tomorrow and report back to ya.

Good bars and restaurants? Well I'm married with kids and I work up to 72 hours a week so I don't get out much. If I do head out is usually to Green Tree Brewery in LeClaire or Bent Riverine Moline or Rock Island, IL. Both are good but not spectacular. Cheers dgoogle.
Thanks for the great info! I used to frequent the area, but it has been years.

dgoogle I apologize for not getting back with you. I've been sick all week so haven't gotten out. I'll try to get to HyVee today and check for ya. Are you in town yet?
I've been in town all week and am leaving today. I found plenty of canned Pseudo Sue dated 12/29, so all is well! Also picked up some other odds and ends. Really enjoyed the west coast ipa by Great River and Blueberry Uncommon. Thanks for getting back to me.

Hello Iowains, I am traveling to Des Moines from Chicago for business and will be cruising in on 80. Looks like I pass through Iowa City, Quad Cities and Des Moines. If I am looking to pick up out of distro stuff from Chicago to try what are my best bets as far as shops to hit up.

Thanks in Advance

All the stops in the QC are out of the way from 80 except for the Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits on West Kimberly Road. My advice would be to stop at John's Grocery in Iowa City. They just re-did the store and haven't been up there since but they've always had a real nice selection.

John's is great but pricey. The Hy-vee on Waterfront in Iowa City is also very good. As far as locals to get DO NOT overlook Exile. They put out great beers and are probably my favorite Iowa brewery. If timing is right i could also meet for a beer, possibly at Big Grove Brewery 10 minutes north of Iowa City.

Thanks for the info and I appreciate the offer to meet up, unfortunately I have to get to Des Moines to take a client out to dinner so I don't think I'll have time for a drink. Next time I'm heading out that way I'll be sure to leave my evening open to enjoy come libations in Iowa City.

Going to be in Des Moines tomorrow night and Wednesday.. any battleships or bars I have to keep an eye out for? Also local beer for that matter..?

Meh. Didn't even try. The Central Waters event the same day might have kept a few people from trying but what the hell do I know.

I'm looking for a proxy to pick up my MD bottles. Get at me and I'll send you a nice thank you box.

100$ for two lousy bottles and a ****** teku?...lol. Who the **** pays that?
Are you looking for someone with your exact name...because that would be the only way you could proxy MD. Your name is on the ticket and you're going to show your ID when you get to the fest.

Anyone following this thread going to be at Zwanze on Sat at Scheara's? I'll be there for my 3rd year in a row...

Driving from Milwaukee Saturday morning. Trying to decide what to bring for a bottle share.

Has there been bottle share action in previous years? Went to Chicago Zwanze previously...

yes there's been a share in the past

Probably won't make it to Toppling at all... other than staying at Schera's for dinner is there anything going on around town after that event? My plan at the moment is to bring extra beer for my wife and I to share with new friends.

no, It's a very small town, we've stay at Scheara's until maybe 9pm and headed home after that.

anything near Cherokee??

is it worth the drive to Sioux City SD?

Unfortunately I have no idea. That side of the state is dullsville.

that much i expected

thought we'd be doing most of the driving through Iowa but looks like the map has us going through Minnesota most of the way, then almost straight south to Cherokee.
