Initial gravity reading

So this is about my 5th brew and I just realized. I don't know WHEN to take the initial gravity reading. Any help? THX

Just before you pitch the yeast. Easiest to do if you take some while it is flowing into your fermenter.

Unless it's a full boil I wait for about five to ten minutes after adding to fermentor and just before pitching. That way I feel that the wort and top up water is evenly mixed. For a full boil obviously it doesn't matter.
