Good day everyone. My first post and unfortunately needs to be related to a possible infection. :(

My second batch is a Two Hearted IPA clone, that seemed to have a significant amount of cloudiness after 10 days in the primary. I read online about clarification solutions and tried a gelatin clarification method to clarify the beer in the secondary. Seemed to work pretty well, beer is quite clear after 3 weeks in secondary. I just removed the hop bags from dry hopping and the top of the beer has a significant amount of stuff floating on it. I have attached a photo, sorry for the clarity, hard to get a decent photo through the carboy.

This is only my second batch so not sure if this is normal to see in the secondary.

Thank you.

Really hard to see... but that's a lot of headspace for secondary.

Next time, you can skip the secondary.

Try taking a pic down the hole if you can, but if you don't see big sticky bubbles or stringy formations on the surface or a broken ice patch, looking film, you're probably ok.

It's hard to tell, for sure, what is going on in that picture.

Considering the scenario you described, I would say that this batch does not look good.

Those cloudy white chunks are very suspicious. Remove the airlock and give the carboy a sniff, or take a gravity sample and taste it.

No smell. I did a taste test and it tastes actually pretty good. Exactly as I would expect. I'm pretty meniachal about sanitization and it's only been moved once between primary and secondary so wondering if it's the after effect of the gelatin.

I know the headspace is bad, was still dialing in my post boil gallons and came up short for this batch to reach the neck of the carboy.

I've never seen anything like that after dry hopping, or dry oaking, or dry spicing, or dry whiskey-ing, but maybe once after dry coconutting.

Let us know how it turns out. :mug:

I don't see how anyone can say whether it looks good or not with any degree of certainty based on that picture... am I alone on this?

Truly. Could be yeast rafts, could be Lacto rafts, could be oily spots catching the camera flash. Only time will tell I guess.

Fortunately, not all infections create off flavors.

I tried for a better picture down the hole but my phone won't focus and the pics look worse. I'm going to bottle it this weekend regardless and repost the results once it's drinkable. Thanks again everyone.

Just a quick update, no issues with the beer at all. Two weeks in the bottle now and tastes pretty awesome. Thanks everyone for the help. Two Hearted IPA clone from toronto brewing.ca, can't go wrong!
