What is a good source for 1-2 liter inexpensive glass bottles?

I'm looking to get some 1-2 liter glass bottles for temporary storage and transportation of homemade sodas to parties. I would like something with a flip top (but able to hold the carbonation) or with a screw cap (that could hold carbonation) or that I could cap with my standard sized bottle caps.

Thanks, Doug

You won't find screw cap anything. The swing tops and regular bottles are available at your LHBS. If it's anything like mine the 22s will be $14/case or so and the swing tops are usually a little more.

The largest glass bottles I've found that fit standard crown caps are champagne bottles, or if you wish to purchase them with a beverage in them and are looking for something cheaper than champagne, you could pick up Martinelli's Sparkling Ciders.

If you're making really colorful sodas and want to show them off, then I'd go with Acqua Panna in 1L bottles from a food service warehouse. A clear bottle goes a long way for show of a beautifully colored beverage. The Acqua Panna is bit pricey, but if you're a show off, then that's your best bet. I know the Olive Garden near me serves these, if you have one near you, ask if they can save you some bottles.

Have you considered PET plastic bottles?

They come in various sizes (16oz, 20oz, 1L, 2L) and are free, if you dumpster dive.

The ikea link above, $3.99 is pretty expensive for a 1L swing top. I posted in another thread a regional store ( Christmas tree shops) in new England here has 1L Italian glass swingtops for $1.99. Last time I was there I bought 6. They said they have 3000 in their warehouse.

Does anybody know if the IKEA bottles can handle the pressure of carbonation? Also, is the swing top tight enough to maintain the carbonation?

Thanks, Doug
