Hello all! I am looking to create a "Imperial Red IPA," which is sort of a made up thing. Basically it is a IIPA, that is red. Pretty basic. I have never created a recipe from scratch before, so I would like to see if I can get some feedback from the group. This is what I put together:

Mash

Amt Name %/IBU
13 lbs 4.0 oz Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) 80.30%
1 lbs Caramunich Malt (56.0 SRM) 6.10%
1 lbs Carared (20.0 SRM) 6.10%
8.0 oz Melanoiden Malt (20.0 SRM) 3.00%
8.0 oz Victory Malt (25.0 SRM) 3.00%
4.0 oz Chocolate Malt (350.0 SRM) 1.50%

Boil Additions

Amt Name %/IBU
1.00 oz Chinook [13.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min 37.5 IBUs
0.50 oz Cascade [5.50 %] - Boil 60.0 min 7.9 IBUs
1.00 oz Centennial [10.00 %] - Boil 30.0 min 22.2 IBUs
0.50 oz Cascade [5.50 %] - Boil 30.0 min 6.1 IBUs
0.30 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 10.0 mins)
1.00 oz Liberty [4.30 %] - Boil 10.0 min 4.5 IBUs

Any pointers or insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

If you want it to be anything like a double IPA, you need a lot more late hops! I'd ditch any 30 minute additions and focus on adding everything a lot later. You can look around at other IIPA recipes to get a better feel for what your hop schedule should look like, but I'd go with a couple ounces at 5-10 minutes, a couple more at flameout and at least one round of dry hopping.

This is from the Heady Topper clone thread, note that there's nothing between 90 minutes and 5 minutes!

Definitely more hops. I'd do one 60 min addition, or even 90 minute, and then have the rest of your additions 20 minute or less. I'd also up your dry hopping.

Any reason for the liberty hops? Seems kind of random with chinook and cascade. Maybe try a few more C hops
