I am getting ready to brew an imperial brown and can not find a good base that appeals to me.

Here is what I have so far. I will have a little better idea of the % of each malt and the exact crystal types in a couple hours

Marris base
brown malt
amber malt
some crystal

fuggles or EKG 2 additions ~30 IBU's

shooting for 23 starting Plato
finish at 3 Plato have turbinado to hit the 23 if needed

002 is the yeast I have.

also planning to barrel age this.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

This is just a matter of opinion, but I'd get rid of the amber malt, and focus on the brown malt and crystal on top of your base. You might even add some munich or vienna, but just a tad to avoid creeping into "Bock" category. Maybe mash low to balance the body a bit with a high malt bill.

Any plans to dry hop? Barrel aging should do nicely with this style. Hope it turns out!
